From article: "Pods is a fantastic plugin for WordPress that helps you bring content management to the next level on your favorite platform. If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I talk about Pods a lot. It's time that I showed you what I've learned so far in hopes that it helps you get up and running with Pods as well."

I'd love some feedback regarding how to improve the Basics series, as well as any input you've got as far as future walkthroughs you'd like to see. I plan on covering more niche topics as the year goes on, but if people are interested in something specific, I'd love to know about it!

  • I downloaded pods to make a catalogue page for my website. Suters auto services Volvos and has a supply of used parts for older Volvos.

I want to make a catalogue with part name car year and model fields and a description of the part.

I don't need a full e commerce site with order fulfillment and checkout so i thought I could just make a little parts catalogue.

So far I have not succeeded. The documentation on the Pods site is too cryptic and depends on the user bringing a lot of prior knowledge. Your tutorial series is a lot more verbose and enjoyable to read. I almost think I could make it work. The kind of thing I trip over in this series are my lack of knowledge.

You create content for templates but never say how to make a template file or where to put it, or how to name it so the program can find it. Your code is colour coded but I can only guess at which lines to change to use your example to make my catalogue.

The examples in the pods codex are sparse and very short. Yours are much longer. You say something like... you could follow the graphic interface, but I prefer to get my hands dirty write my own ....
It might help to explain why you made yours different.

I hope this helps with choosing future topics. Now I'm going to try again to make my page.

    Gord
